Some use lantern jaw, but I think it’s not that popular.

In Maltese we have a precise word on which we both agree(I hope); “faqmi”.

What was worse was that Malta in the sixties was starting to resemble the Riviera and shops lacked for nothing.

That was, until Mintoff was elected in 1971 and Malta started resembling a repressed east-European soviet- satellite country.

That was evident only to those who lived away from Malta in the 70s and 80s and could follow world events freely without censorship from Dardir Malta.

Taking a shower, using deodorant, washing your hair with anything other than soap and brushing your teeth were pretty much unknown.

Taking a public bus was a nightmare in winter and total hell in summer.

Once I saw Lawrence Gonzi at the Ophthalmic Outpatients’ Clinic. It was past 2pm, when the clinic was already deserted, and he was accompanied by two aides – not security men.

He gave the lone clerk his unassuming smile, and left. No fanfare, no skipping the queues, no nothing.
