I agree with Another John.

I know, personally, someone who sold his own house and got a social housing flat.

Someone from my family already had their own property when they were given the land by the government so they could build a new house.

This was in the 80s, under the Labour government.

Well, there’s a historical reason for that: slum clearance. You only get slums in cities.

The people who lived in the Grand Harbour area slums wanted to stay right there, so social housing replaced the slums or was built as close to their former location as possible.
