Malta, as things stand, CAN depend on imported electricity for its base load. The imported electricity is provided from the European grid (dear Konrad). Which can more than cover the base load. It’s the Maltese government which has decided to limit the supply provided by this grid, and to make up for the shortfall by using power stations on the national territory.

Is this an engineer talking, or what?

Malta can also depend on domestic power generation for its base load.

Either way, that statement is, in engineering terms, a complete lie.
