If the prime minister’s wife is going to be present, then that means she is the hostess, so her name goes on the invitation too.

Her name is not included on the invitation only if she is not going to be there.

But you are correct – that is absolutely no way to address your guests. Their staff should include a social secretary whose job it is to ring around and obtain the necessary information before the cards are written out and mailed.

So, we’ve got an event where, presumably, alcohol will be served and their concern is to provide parking.

Providing advice for public transport or taxis, even if it’s in addition to parking tips, would be more appropriate.

With some luck, it would keep stationary vehicles safer from the Justice Minister.
