Actually there would have been quite a bit of room/apartment renting business such as there is around tal-Qroqq IF Muscat had not given prime land to the Jordanian, to profit from the accommodation side of the business, as well.

Not that room/apartment renting business would have made this sham of a university any more of a good idea of course.

This WAS Muscat's gift all right, just not to Cottonera or the South, but to Hani Hasan Naji Al Salah.

The pertinent question remains, if Al Salah is getting all the benefits in this deal in whose personal interest, on the Maltese side of the table is this whole deal?

Maltese people might sell a few groceries or hire a few cars, unless Al Salah includes catering like many universities do or the students choose not to eat out at non halal venues.

Has anyone actually asked Joseph Muscat to list the benefits to the local population or businesses?

Or are we simply taking his word for it?

Do you want to know why Simon Busuttil should replace Joseph Muscat as prime minister? Because, whatever his faults, he is not a bullshit salesman.

Muscat blabbers about the importance of this 35 million euro investment, about how it's a win-win thing, while in truth he is not telling us who's actually winning and what, or who's losing.

Is he winning something himself?

The news this morning is that the Marsascala football team is complaining that it has lost its training ground to one of Muscat's corrupt crony capitalists whose name is longer than this phrase.

A Jordanian construction mogul, Hani Hasan Naji Al Salah, who is planning to build a tourist village under the guise of a faux university on Maltese land donated to him by Muscat, a Labour man who's true to his party's undeclared motto, that is to be so kind with the tax-payers' money to corrupt persons and organisations as long as these give something in return to the party nomenklatura.

A 35 million euro investment is not something that the country would throw away, but Muscat keeps referring to it as if it were the best thing that ever happened this side of 1964, which actually means that if this is the biggest thing that he can produce, then God help us.

On top of this we have now, bearing on us, Joe Sammut's (et al) €84,000,000 "foreign direct investment" by corrupt deeds, a mega scandal for Malta's size and which beats the oil-scandal by orders of magnitude, if we were to use the oil scandal as a bench mark.

This is now the situation in Malta. Corruption has taken over all walks of life. Foreign investors know it.

The minister of finance actually mentioned something in this regard a few weeks ago while avoiding putting the blame on his master and peers.

Foreign investors are today looking at Malta differently compared to three years ago.
