Until a couple of years ago, I believe he was a director on the board of APS Bank.

He is a very knowledgeable and capable banker. I should know.

I know a few Taghna Lkollers who did the opposite and moved their business to the Bank of Valletta. That is why I still have some hope that the bank will still somehow survive these very unwise decisions.

It shows how when chairmen and directors are appointed on the basis of political views rather than competence (or the much abused term, meritocracy), very major mistakes — such as this one — can be made.

Having the Bank of Valletta run like a branch of the Labour Party is enough reason for me to have no confidence in it – which is why I moved virtually all my deposits elsewhere some time ago.

In the light of what is now happening, it feels like this was a wise decision.
