As a matter of fact, I think Malta has a higher than (European) average incidence of insular thinking, which then gives rise to its peculiar form of racism. It is an isolated island, on the edge of everything, with no real real cities, cut off from cosmopolitan life, with a great big massive chip on its shoulder, so that pretty much explains it.

No, “Arabs” are not more likely to kill their wives than Maltese men are. Wife-killing is strongly associated with the whole of southern Europe. Even in Australia, most wife-killings are/were committed by immigrants from southern Europe.

Wife-killing is associated with chauvinistic societies, whatever and wherever they are. Honour-killings, which is what you are probably thinking of, are not associated with the ‘Arab world’ but are a cultural product of the Indian subcontinent, some of which (Pakistan) is Muslim – read up on your history to find out why Muslims are in Pakistan and Hindus in India – from where many people have emigrated to Europe, especially Britain.

Incidents of honour-killings are mainly associated with families of Pakistani – as distinct from Arab – extraction and Islam has nothing to do with it.

There are honour-killings in India, too, and they’re Hindu.

If we’re too overcrowded to take in Syrians with no money, we’re also too overcrowded to take in Libyans and Serbs with money.

The house-country comparison was just an example as some Maltese are not interested about anything else beyond their houses.

There is a certain amount of imported criminality, with our police force not rising in sophistication to match this, the country is caught unaware. E.g. The Libyan who killed his girlfriend parked is BMW calmly at the Malta airport and flew off to Italy, with not a single hindrance, for all we know he could be back in Malta, given the elite-mess of our border control. The citizen suffers.

I’ve just skimmed through that comments thread and I’m gobsmacked.

Quite apart from the usual racist and small-island jingoism, what really hits you hard is the extremely limited life experience of a lot of the Maltese making those comments. It’s like they’ve never been anywhere outside Malta, or package tours to countries heaving with flirtatious blondes or Thais.

I mean the sheer IGNORANCE. And I use the word in the sense of not knowing things.

Do they really believe what they write? Because sometimes I wonder.

The fellow going on about blondes and pole-dancers is a monument to catastrophic presepju syndrome, plus some serious sexual fantasies.

Then you get the seemingly more respectable comments, only to discover that instead of sexual fantasies, it’s fantasies of a Europe-wide Enid Blyton land, a kind of time warp where cheery vicars cycle along country lanes and stout yeomen wave back from the hedgerows.

Do they know the meaning of COSMOPOLITAN? No, not the magazine – although on second thoughts, it is, for there would be no sophisticated living, and no magazine, without cities. And cities are full of people. Different ones. From all sorts of interesting backgrounds and countries.

You’d think we voted to join a hamlet, not Europe. Then we call ourselves a hub. I’ve yet to see an unconnected hub. But 2015 Malta is exactly that.

I wonder how they manage to go about life with that kind of attitude. Goes to show they’ve never had to do such mundane 2015 things as working abroad, in Europe, or going to the supermarket in any European city. Outside the confines of this ridiculous Disneyfied Oligarchy, chances are your boss will be of a different shape, colour, origin and religion. Ditto for your colleagues. If you set out turning up your nose at everyone who’s different you’ll end up out on your arse, with a begging bowl. And even then, do you only accept small change from members your own tribe? Do you refuse a job just because the boss and colleagues aren’t from your own tribe? If you phone for a plumber, and a fellow with a different complexion turns up, what do you do? Send him away and live with a leaking cistern? Refuse to have your sick child seen by a non-white doctor? It’s ridiculous.
