Yes, exactly. I have been in situations where the bags of passengers who did not come to the boarding gate, or who were late to the boarding-gate, were taken off the plane before it could leave without them.

Bags from different passengers cannot “be mixed up”. Each bag has an identification tag that links it to your passport and seat number.

The code on your bag is scanned before it is loaded on the plane, giving your details. At the boarding gate, your boarding card is scanned, and this feeds your details into the system. The two must tally.
