The English ‘educated’ does not mean the Maltese ‘edukat’.

Educated means schooled, informed and able to think rationally. It does not mean well-mannered.

I did not “attack you personally”. There was no axe or knife involved and I did not make any references to your personal life or character.

I merely pointed out that obvious: that somebody of your background, with your advantages, would in a civilised society neither hold your opinions or, if he did, know enough to keep them to himself on the basis that they are the opinions of an ignorant redneck.

Try listening to yourself. You told me that if Muslims come to Malta, Malta will be under sharia law and I will not be able to write what I wish anymore.

You ignore the fact that Malta is a member state of the European Union.

You also ignore the fact that the harassment I have had to put up with over 25 years, because of what I write, has come not from Muslims but from my fellow Maltese.

You do not respect the views of others and that is precisely why you are intolerant of anybody who is Muslim and see ‘Muslims’ – who are from all kinds of socio-educational backgrounds and citizens of many different countries, as are indeed Catholics – as one huge, undifferentiated and homogenous mass who are out to get you and make you live under Sharia law.

Muslims themselves don’t want to live under Sharia law – why would they?

I would have expected better education and more rationality and intelligence from somebody with all your other advantages.

But then this is exactly what I wrote about the other day, for my column in The Malta Independent, when I said that the worst and most ignorant racists are at the two extremes of the social spectrum in Malta, and the worst ignorance and racism is not what I read on the internet but what I have to contend with on a regular basis among people I meet.

The number of children is not linked to religion, whether Catholic or Muslim, but to education.
