You don’t understand the nature of what you’re dealing with.

These people come from generations of southern European peasant amoral pragmatism. There is no God except money and survival.

Conscience and philosophical questions are the fruit of education and civilisation – of generations of it.

These are people who, despite having a university degree, a house, money, trips overseas and the rest, remain at the exact same moral level as their predecessors.

It takes far more than one generation to make a person civilised in spirit.

One is away in Brussels jixxahxah and every so often pens an article to make sure he is not forgotten by the rest of us.

Others, having behaved so dishonestly in public life, are enjoying the fruits of their ill-gotten gains while the going is still good.

I believe that at some stage in life, now or at the very end, when one is alone with his or her own “god”, one will have to ask the eternal question as to whether selling one’s soul to the devil was, after all, worth it.
