I concur with you on most points, but there is more to it.

Most of the labour force is employed in the traditional sectors, which do not contribute much to GDP.

A high proportion of these jobs are in wholesale and retail. What worries me most is that when you add up the stay-at-home mothers, the suckers who don't want to work, those who need re-training but are too old or lazy to bother, and the skilled cronies who would produce more if they were to be released from their cushy public service job, the current lack of productivity is already evidently high.

Now if we try to picture tomorrow's business environment, which will definitely be founded on professional services within a highly technological world, I can't imagine how our large number of dropouts and poorly educated students will contribute.

Our insular mentality, lack of professionalism and accountability have become ingrained in our culture and pervasive throughout and will not change easily.

As for your last comment, in my opinion, as things stand today, despite Labour's deceitfulness and cleptocracy, Simon Busuttil doesn't stand a fat chance of being prime minister.

Ask those who heard the speech he delivered today and you'll have your reasons.

Busuttil's bike WAS fitted with an electric motor and a little battery pack slung inside the frame. It's just that the design language still spelt bike. Pity. And no Baxxter, it's not cheating, can't have the Leader of the Opposition going round Dar Centrali' in a towel can we?

And what a shame the local strain of hipsters had to embroil itself in Labour's posing and AD's commie grey areas. How they sneer, as if they're the ones who can innovate.
