Like religion, that’s a decision they should be allowed to make for themselves when they grow up.

Human beings have evolved to be omnivorous. That is why they (we) have spread successfully all over the planet, in a huge variety of extreme differently conditions.

No other creature has evolved in that way. And it is mainly down to the ability to eat anything and do well on it.

I can’t abide parents who force their children to be vegetarians just because they happen to be vegetarians themselves. How dare they make that decision for their children?

It’s like those parents who decide that their children should never eat sweets or cake, and treat both like heroin. Recipe for disaster, if you ask me.

Nothing wrong with eating meat when you are young. In fact, it is essential for proper growth.

The problems only begin when you are getting on in age and are basically unhealthy anyway.

Grilled vegetables such as aubergines, courgettes, red peppers etc and ġbejniet or cheese, with some balsamic vinegar make delicious panini.

As for omelets, my mother used to make them for our school lunch and they were one of my favourite packed lunches.

A chicken sandwich is also good – as long as the children have a place to keep them in a cold place for storage.

Canned salmon with mayonnaise and diced onions and diced sweet pickles, a drop of mustard and mashed makes a wonderful sandwich filler too.

As somebody who seldom eats meat, I was taken aback when I had to buy a pork chop for a visiting friend and had to go to the butcher shop.

Standing in line, I was astounded at the sheer amount of meats that the average housewife buys for her family. Surely, this cannot be good for the health, I thought then.

In order to make good wholesome foods using minimum animal fat and flesh, one needs time and a culinary bent.

The amount of delicious and healthy vegetarian recipes that one can make is astounding. Which reminds me, I need to go and prepare my lentil burgers.
