However, I have been writing about John Dalli’s involvement with the fraudster Mary Swan aka Marie Eloise Corbin since the summer of 2013 and that is when I first published one of her false passports.

That is also when I published full details of her address in Sliema, her activities, and included photographs of the block of flats where she lived.

You were the Police Commissioner at that time.

The aspect of the story that I broke when Ray Zammit was acting Commissioner was the experience of some of the victims of this scam, as related to me by them.

However, I had already described the scam a year earlier – I just didn’t have the victims’ version or the details of John Dalli’s HSBC bank account to which they had wired their money.

But if you had called Mary Swan/Corbin in for questioning then, and raided her flat, you would have got that information almost two years ago.

The trouble is, like a lot of people you just didn’t believe me then because so many people, but mainly the Labour Party, had deliberately done so much to discredit me.

All they did by doing that was damage what should be our shared interests in journalism and in politics.

I appreciate the sentiment expressed in what you quoted, and I wish I could have as much faith as you do in the idea that the law has a long memory and a heavy boot.

But when I see Karmenu Il-Guy Vella appointed European Commissioner, Alex Sceberras Trigona appointed special envoy to the World Trade Organisation, Joe Grima appointed special envoy to the World Tourism Organisation, Dom Mintoff buried without trial and leaving a fortune of millions to his daughters, the people who murdered LIno Cauchi, Raymond Caruana and Karin Grech still running free and undetected, those who set fire to the Times building and ransacked homes and PN clubs having got away with it, then I know it isn’t true.

And you know it isn’t true either. It’s just something we would like to believe in, an ideal.

But in the land of the corrupt, it’s different.

Dalli’s daughters have run his various businesses for years. Mrs Gauci Borda was stationed in Libya at one point.

As does Joseph Muscat’s.

The reckoning comes later.

Even if the children accept the situation, they should never have been dumped with their father’s scams.

I wonder if they ever had a choice at any point in time.
