Maria MIcallef did not bothering saying how much Air Malta lost on oil hedging (or hatching according to the PL billboard in Republuc Street ).

I do not believe that she meant slashing next year’s losses by taking into account the proceeds from selling off Air Malta’s assets to the shareholder.

I know exactly what it is: state aid by a different name.

State aid is illegal under European Union laws so Wily Coyote Joseph Muscat has found a way around it.

Oh, how he must be sniggering at Jean-Claude Juncker and all his pesky rules.

Oh, how he delights in giving a two-fingered salute to the European Investment Bank which refuses to fund his projects.

He thinks he’s got the better of them all, the Great Sultan of Malta, held back only by his humility.

Neither the waves of Canute nor the wrath of God will stop him from getting to the trough. He will beat them all.

Pity the joke’s on us. This kind of wiliness and ‘financial creativity’ is precisely what got Greece into the mess it is in today.

For the best part of 35 years, it thought it had the better of the rest of the EU. Then the proverbial sh*t hit the proverbial fan and we all know what happened.
