We now have a hierarchical, corrupt government and public appointment systems where nepotism and cronyism hold hands, and the stench of corruption is overwhelming.

Have the honourable members of the Opposition lost their collective critical voices along with other sections of the media?

And I mean ‘critical voices’ in two senses:

1. in a way that shouts to the electorate from the rooftops an analysis of the merits and faults of this government’s actions; and

2. it is now with a sense of critical urgency that they end their silence.

It is this lack of strong opposition by the opposition, which has enabled this labour government to continually thumb their noses at democracy and meritocracy and appoint as many village idiots and country bumpkins as it likes to both high- and low-ranking positions.

The apparent ongoing complacency and acceptance by the Opposition (and some sections of the media) of this sorry state of affairs can only result in disastrous consequences to the economy.

In addition, it will be too late to stop the credibility and international reputation of Malta to disappear even more rapidly and further down the proverbial pan.
