It is incorrect to refer to this issue in terms of World War II.

There are two peoples involved in a conflict created through bad and sometimes opportunistic political leadership on both sides.

The fear levels are such now that the population considers each Jew, each Palestinian as “enemy”.

The Israeli and Palestinian leaders are locked into a position where they cannot move forward or sideways.

For outsiders to take sides is easy and we all tend to do it but to use inappropriate references is no help at all.

Call me naive (surely, “kwadrju naiff”) but I don’t get it.

Are they saying they wish ISIS had been around seventy years ago so it could have fought alongside the Russians against the Nazis, or that ISIS should attack Jews, because, er, isn’t that ipso facto the aim of ISIS?

No wonder our experts on the Middle East write such baffling opinion columns.
