In 2010 the mayor of Sta Venera resigned because she had accepted payment – on behalf of the Council – for renting a room to someone giving private lessons. She didn’t pocket the money herself of course, quite the opposite, but the PL made a huge fuss. The PM instructed the Auditor to investigate and the mayor resigned because the €80 (plus €20 she had donated herself) had not been minuted officially.

Now the mayor of Marsascala accepts tens of thousands of euros, without informing the Council, and it’s business as usual for the government.

And the people of Marsascala gathered to protest against the improvement at the Waste Serve recycling plant costing about 27 million euro most of it from EU funds but as far as I remember never even raised a feeble cry about the disaster in the making at Zonqor point.

Marsascala especially the Sant Antin area was surrounded by the stench emanating from the “impjant”.

It was really bad and it was terrible to live there. But they seemed to have got so used to it that they organised a protest march against its removal.
