You hit the nail on the head there. The brain behind the eyes and the look in the eyes influences the impression one makes dramatically.

Think Lawrence Gonzi and Simon Busuttil – not good-looking, but clearly in possession of a good brain and a positive (as opposed to bitchy) approach to life.

For men this is the difference between a gentleman and a human kohlrabi.

Mrs Muscat has improved a little. The President has gone in the opposite direction. She’s getting bigger and bigger, which is really difficult for somebody so short.

I never said anything about height, except to point out that while a tall might might get away with a spare ounce of fat, a short one cannot. British squaddies are about as fat our average AFM soldier (enlisted or officer), and yet they look better because they are on average taller.

And of course posture.

Oh we really need to do something about facial expression. Bovine is the word. The Archbishop looked far better than any government minister, because there is a lively brain behind those eyes.

You’re wrong.

The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and his wife are all short to middling height. The Queen is even shorter than Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, which is saying something. Prince Philip didn’t exactly tower above the Archbishop, which is saying something too. Prince Charles was a lot shorter than his first wife. Both he and his second wife have ugly faces and very indifferent figures. The Queen and Prince Philip were a handsome couple in their youth, but hardly extraordinary.

So what makes the difference? Posture, posture, posture, posture – and not a spare ounce of fat.

She should start by going on a massive diet. She looks 10 months pregnant with triplets in that picture – not a good look when you are 4’6″.
