How is a system of subsidies (for that is what the CAP is) not protectionist, especially when European Union rules prohibit subsidies of other industry sectors?

And on what planet does it make sense for a political union which is strapped for cash to spend 40% of its collective budget appeasing farmers?

And what makes farmers more deserving of cash hand-outs than clothes manufacturers, ship builders, airlines or any other industry you would care to mention?

Sorry, but the Common Agricultural Policy is a money-sucking destructive black hole and has to go. Although it is not to blame for all the poverty in Africa, it certainly does not help. If the farming market were liberalised, more African farmers would be able to export their produce profitably.

The knot in question in that ghastly monument, touted as the symbol of a link between two continents, is not a link at all. It is a simple overhand knot. It is tied in one strand, therefore it is not a bend but a stopper knot. It joins nothing whatsoever.
