The problem is not that she SHOWS she really approves of Muscat and his government, but that she approves of Muscat and his government in the first place.

It shows how deficient she is in the very skills required of diplomats in foreign lands: the ability to see, observe and correctly analyse situations.

The way European ambassadors view Muscat and his government is really not much different to the way I do.

She was far too biased in favour of Labour and she had no problem showing it off in public.

Being human, just like we all are, ambassadors have their political preferences too.

But their post demands discretion and sensible behaviour. In this regard, I am afraid to say, she failed miserably.

The former ambassador was an Obama-ite through and through. That’s perfectly fine, except there are far more pressing issues round these parts. Ambassadors the world over get their information via their own countrymen, but also by host-country nationals working as embassy staff. I can’t help feeling there’s a certain amount of filtering going on, “biex naghmlu riklam tajjeb lil Malta.” It happens at the British High Commission too.
