If it’s a choice between going to Eton and ending up with a deficit, and going to Savio College and no loan, I’d choose Eton. The career path and consequent income will soon erase the deficit.

St Aloysius was never meritocratic. To get into sixth form, male applicants simply had to be old boys. Girls had to exceed the minimum requirements by far and could still be displaced by a boy who barely held the minimum 6 O-levels, as long as he had been to the school.

I would tend to disagree with a ‘scholarship’ as it is a loan to be paid after attending Eton. So the poor would end up with a big deficit whilst the rich have none. A lot has been discussed about the issue on ‘The Guardian’ as an example. It is the same with property and health.

The richest and most successful don’t live in Malta.

There is a large black economy out there, with drugs, prostitution, money laundering, and indirect car imports, on which not a penny of tax or VAT is paid that has taken control of the police, the judiciary, and most of our MPs.

Only traffickers not part of the clan get arrested; and are normally found conveniently hanged in their cell.

The education issue is now a secondary issue. We have lost proper governance of our country, and before this is recovered, educational systems reforms will not happen.

That’s not what “no child left behind” means. It’s about financially disadvantaged students. In other words, about meritocratic education.

Which, by the way, exists and functions perfectly in the British public school system. There are scholarships so even the poorest child can go to Eton.
