I wish we’d stop bandying buzzwords without defining them. A terrorist threat means a threat to a target.

Who exactly is the target? The Libyan prime minister will not be among the CHOGM delegates. So there really is no target.

Whatever the Daily Mail says, the Queen won’t be targeted by ISIS any time soon. Neither will David Cameron. They’d sooner kill Abdullah II of Jordan.

This whole “terrorist threat” business is just a masturbatory aid for politicians.

Good point, Daphne. Meanwhile I don’t understand why it’s a problem for Merkel etc to feel a few bumps in the road.

It’s not like they are on a sales trip to invest in Malta.

If government cash is limited why not spend this money on better hospital facilities?

And no, let’s not spend an outrageous 11 million euros on a new upgrade of the existing hospital when we know it could have been built for 7 million.

The government should not need the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or the Pope or the Queen or Cikku or Peppu to maintain the roads. That should be done regularly and properly.

Malta has to stop and watch its government host a summit and a Commonwealth meeting.

When the Prime Minister was still at school in 1989, the then government hosted the 25th anniversary of Independence celebrations, to which many heads of state were invited, and the country did not grind to a halt.

Bush and Gorbachev also held a summit in Malta and life went on.

Two popes visited Malta and nothing came to a halt.

Ten years ago, Malta hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and roads were resurfaced (not two days prior), but life went on.

In 2011, Malta was in the proximity of a raging war 300 miles south in Libya, with tens of thousands of refugees processed by the Maltese authorities in collaboration with their home countries, and it was “business as usual”.

Now we have a government hosting two big meetings, and we are all ordered to stay home, not go to university, not send our children to school and not drive through certain roads.

People are uncertain whether they can go out of their houses to go to work, especially those who work in Floriana, Valletta and at the airport.

It is like this is the first time Malta is hosting something big. Vera kaz ta arani ma.
