Well, ok, but that wasn’t Matthew S’s argument. In any case, you can have sexual health campaigns which take into account the context. But you won’t get that from the health department.

They’ll produce a million standard poorly designed untargeted leaflets which nobody will look at, let alone read, and distribute them at random events like this one.

There are far better places than the premiere of an arthouse movie to distribute free condoms at, such as parties or clubs. But we’re suckers for the “okkazjoni specjali”.

The trouble is that everybody seems to be looking at it as a tourism promotion event rather than a government meeting.

The correct phrasing is “Merci de ne pas something”.

Or 65c?

This is unrelated to the above but I thought I should tell you about it.

The Eden Cinemas are currently screening films as part of Pout Fest (a film festival about LGBTI issues). The festival is being supported by Helena Dalli’s Ministry for Social Dialogue and Civil Liberties.

The première was last night. Outside the theatre, there were tables full of government-issued pamphlets about sexually transmitted diseases, together with free condoms for people to pick up.

The way I see it, the pamphlets and condoms go against the ethos of the festival. This is not normalisation of LGBTI relationships but homophobia straight from the 1980s. Gays know nothing about normal relationships and we have to stop them from spreading ‘the AIDS’ (sic).

Please see the photographs attached. Note that the condoms are called ONE, with precisely the same logo as ONE Television. According to the website, their motto is We Are One, which is also the motto One TV uses.

If One TV got their ‘inspiration’ from a condom-maker, that is very appropriate.
