Do I really have to explain the workings of the parliamentary system to people who actually vote in elections?

The government is formed by the party – not group of parties – with the most votes and therefore the most seats in parliament.

If the Labour Party wins more votes than the Nationalist Party, the Nationalist Party cannot team up with AD and say, hey, hang on, we have more votes together.

Mario, thank you for this comment. But please let’s not talk about political decisions and political actions in terms of “sins” and “repentance”. That is religious terminology, reflects religious thinking, and does not belong in secular politics.

I and the other 36,000 have every right to cast my vote for who I judge to be the best choice at that point in time.

Dr Gonzi and Co needed a break from office to repent their sins. A period in Opposition is healthy for any democratic party.

I feel no shame in reversing my earlier choice of successive Nationalist governments.
