Sorry Daphne…perhaps I should have used the word ‘nominated’ rather than ‘appointed’.

Although the House of Lords Appointments Commission recommends people for appointment as life peers, it also vets all nominations for appointments to the House of Lords including those nominated by UK political parties.

David Cameron was elected Conservative Party Leader in 2005….both he and the then PM Tony Blair would have put forward their party nominees for appointments to the House of Lords in June 2006.
