What do you expect him to say? That the evil terrorists were trained and masterminded from the suburbs of Paris, or from Molenbeek, a mere 6km from the European Parliament’s monumental glass palace?

Do you expect him to condemn the entire left-wing (eventually cross-party) philosophy since 1968 of individual freedom superseding the common good?

Of course he said the attacks were planned and directed from abroad. He’s covering his arse.

Dear God, it’s like arguing with difficult teenagers who think they know best.

Osama Bin Laden was not a terrorist foot-soldier. He was the one in charge.

Hitler was not a terrorist foot soldier. He was the one in charge.

Mussolini was not a terrorist foot soldier. He was the one in charge.

The psychological profile of terrorist foot soldiers is completely different to that of their leaders. If they had the same psychological profile as their leaders, then they would be leaders and not followers and foot soldiers.

They were not operating across frontiers. Those identified so far were born and raised in France. In fact, their families are being interrogated in custody.

Highly trained and organised, my foot. We are speaking of eight men carrying garage-made explosives and assault weapons, who only managed to kill 127 people between them, despite those people being unarmed and in crowded restaurants and a theatre.

This thing screams “amateur” and “Playstation world” – and saying that should not detract from the horror.

When Anders Behring Breivik went on a shooting spree on a Norwegian holiday island – one man, one gun – he murdered 77 people and got out of it alive. And he wasn’t highly trained or organised, either. In fact, he has been certified insane by court-appointed psychiatrists.
