Astrid Vella is just a tool. She allows herself and FAA to be used in these institutional power games.

I would hazard a guess that the Labour government wants to have the Superintendent for Cultural Heritage removed and replaced by a yes-man. FAA’s press release is intended to give a helping hand to government to reach its objective.

With FAA statements, one should not just look at what is said but also on the emphasis and on what is left unsaid. In this release, FAA wants to put pressure on the Superintendent hoping that he resigns (or trying to give justification to the responsible minister to have him removed).

On another subject, FAA collaborates with government to divert attention away from the real issue on the Castille lighting debacle.

The questions that should be asked are: Who decided that Restoration Directorate should not be consulted?

Who prepared the design of the lighting system (and who would therefore be responsible for supervising the works)?

Was there a lighting designer or was it left in the hands of the contractor?

Who drafted the tender for the lighting design and did it include adequate safeguards to protect the façade?

Given this is a prestigious project, how come there was only one bidder?

There were many things that went wrong with the lighting design. Above all who is politically responsible?
