ISIS should not be an excuse for heightened security alerts. The 2005 CHOGM happened just 4 years after the world’s worst terrorist attack ever – on the World Trade Centre in New York, when everybody was concerned about Al Qaeda.

Libya, just next door, was ruled by Muammar Gaddafi, a terrorist funder and sympathiser.

It looks like our government is unable to guarantee the safety of these heads of government.

If a terrorist organisation wanted to target the upcoming events, they wouldn’t have flown in during the events but would have installed themselves many months ago.

Therefore, considering the extreme security measures being undertaken, the Maltese security services are unable to vouch that terrorists are not installed in Malta already.

Brussels hosts big meetings of heads of government all the time, and the city does not grind to a halt. The same goes for Luxembourg, London, New York and Washington. National security is an ongoing thing and not something to brew up for an upcoming event.
