The whole thing has been sandblasted to sterility, scraped bare, tiled, plastered, covered over with concrete slabs in parts, fitted with those ubiquitous visible-from-space “lighting systems”, and it’s had every little outhouse and ablutions block up to 1979 rebuilt.

Which means there’s nothing Renaissance about it any more. It’s pure 1970s bini tal-gvern.

Oh well. Far better than the burnt mattresses, needles and used condoms of the last thirty years. But we really need to learn the art of the gentle touch.
