I seem to remember that in 2013 Joseph Muscat said that Lawrence Gonzi had also rented his family car to the state, although it was, supposedly, the second car to which a Prime Minister is entitled, and not his official one. If this is true, it could be the reason why the Opposition is not talking much about it.

Aside from the fact that he is paying himself, one should also perhaps look at the fact that if the government were to rent a vehicle of that age and condition from a real rental agency it would be considered substandard.

He tries to convince us that the government saved money by renting his car but if things really were ‘transparent’ he would have competed against real rental agencies which I’m sure could have rented out a car of that standard for a small fraction of that price.
