‘Invite’ and ‘invites’ are verbs.

You invite somebody by issuing an invitation.

I honestly don’t know how Maltese English has ended up adopting the verb ‘invite’ for ‘invitation’ – when used in other, English-speaking cultures, ‘invite’ used for ‘invitation’ is jokey slang.
