You are right, it was champagne. I was thinking a light blue but I have been corrected and it was champagne. I remember it was a light colour which is rather unusual for a minister’s car.

Why do Ministers need GM plates in the first place except to increase their self-importance. I always disagreed with it.

Tal-biza. The gall and the cheek. Some years ago, I used to spend a lot of time in the vicinity of Louis Deguara’s house, when he was Health Minister.

His chauffeur would turn up to collect him with ordinary number plates and would only put the GM plates on the car just before the Minister walked out and would remove them as soon as the Minister walked back into the house for the night.

Furthermore, I never saw the Minister use his official car for any business other than official business. He had a veritable collection of classic cars and would often go out for a spin (or personal errands) using his own vehicles, not like this lot.

“Car and chauffeur paid for using public funds” – Stefan Buontempo’s chauffeur-driven car is still seen practically daily ferrying his children to and fro, lately sans the parliamentary secretary. Perhaps they feel they are not in the wrong because since you had written about him using the GM21 number plates for such trips, the GM plates are now sometimes removed on such “occasions”, leaving the “AQZ” plates showing instead.
