Mr Spiteri, you seem to have a good grasp of Maltese and so one wonders why the advert, which was intended for a Maltese audience, was not written in Maltese in the first place.

You would have probably avoided this mistake immediately. But let us assume that it was vital to write in English. Does nobody from your club or association check or proof-read the advert before it is issued?

There are less than 50 words so it should be pretty easy to get it right, even a primary school child would notice the mistake. So “doing your best to avoid such mistakes” is not even enough.

You should be saying something to the tune of “we are ashamed that sich glaring mistakes were not noticed and I will personally ensure they will never happen again”.

Granted that your association is not in the publication business but next time you should seek the help of a professional to ensure that your association is not ridiculed if you cannot ensure getting 50 words correct.

If, on the other hand, the mistake was made by the designer then you need to find a better one next time round although ultimately you are responsable for the advert you issue.

I think that’s not “1.3pm” but “1-3pm” meaning “1:00 – 3:00 pm”. (I understand the separator should be a colon not a decimal point, but I stand to be corrected.) However, it’s acceptable to write 1 pm instead ot 1:00 pm, say, and perhaps the only adjustment needed here is to add a space before and after the hyphen, thus: “1 – 3pm”.
