Look, Tabatha. You and I know this. But the powerful men and women whose job it is to know these things, speak and write about them, make laws and oppose the government will never waiver from their iron conviction that the economy is doing well.

For the latter, to doubt it would be to doubt their own policies and to renege their own history. Call it il-lealtà tan-Nazzjonalisti. That’s quite beside the fact that they’re all doing very well, since they occupy the best niches: legal firms, passport sales, financial services and all the rest of the Dubai economy.
