I’m sorry to be the one to point this out, but why do career ambitions have to be acknowledged by political parties? If individuals need and seek the acknowledgement of political parties, then they are non-starters to begin with.

Can we stick to the point please? Labour attracts people because it clearly acknowledges their career ambitions. The Nationalist Party is reticent to acknowledge them. That was my point.

Correct me if I’m wrong: Did Richard Cachia Caruana vocalise one way and act the other? Or was he steadfast, loyal, true and bloody-minded when necessary? Everyone is talented. He was an excellent strategist and intelligent with it.

That, is my perfect combination.

I hope you’re not trying to scoff at Labour’s rewards for political and corporate loyalty, or to justify the Nationalist Party’s inability to acknowledge career ambition. Labour always rewards those who work for it and with it, and that is the right thing to do.

They were all appointed because they happened to be at the right place at the right time, not because of self-reliance. I would not call them mercenaries. In fact you would say they were self-reliant in their networking abilities that got them the job in the first place.

Explain to me the difference between what you state and a mercenary.

Explain to me why it was not possible under the “self employed label.”

Why is state employment – and its route of availability – more attractive than self reliance?

No. I mean exactly what I said. Labour acknowledges people’s aspirations for more disposable income. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who didn’t wish for more money and/or a better job.

The Nationalist Party likes to pretend that such appetites, as Marko Ramius so beautifully put it, do not exist. That people “serve”, that they have a vocation but no career ambitions.

That is wrong.

That is the reason people flock to Labour but not to the Nationalist Party. For lots of money and a good career path, Labour is the better option.
