In reply to Blackarrow. I've got to agree with you here. He has served 13 years. He was probably due out soon anyway (if the prison year is really 8 or 9 months as is often said). His debt to society has been paid almost in full. Some compassion would be nice.

And yet, only last summer, aged ninety-four, he was jailed for four years – for his (indirect) part in the atrocities of Auschwitz – meaning that he will probably die in prison. By the reasoning above, he should not be jailed, and should be left to live the rest of his life in peace, especially since he regrets what he has done.

In reply to Manuel. They must have found the stupidest excuse in the book then to release him. Nearly all the prisoners are drug addicts and nearly all drug addicts are hepatitis C positive because they share needles. Incidentally you can only get Hep C from sexual contact or through the blood stream.

100% correctly written. How sad! It is amazing how a healthy sportsman – Godfrey Ellul and I won the under-13 100 metres together; he trashed me on all the other events – ruined his life like this.

It will not hurt anyone if the state were to show compassion towards him and his next of kin by allowing his release to spend his last days in their care. I pray that he is spared the flu virus that has already claimed one victim in prison.

Godfrey would certainly not survive that in his present health condition.
