In reply to Rumplestiltskin. It is a weak response. The real test would be a no confidence motion in parliament against Mizzi. It would put some labour MPS under the spotlight about how the view the scandal. It would be interesting to see how the finance minister can justify voting against the motion.

He’s just announced a national protest against corruption in Valletta on Sunday.

Every Maltese citizen that still has a sense of decency should be there. They should be free to wear their Panama hats to protect against the sun.

Now Super One are saying that Panama is ONLY blacklisted by eight countries of the EU. So bloody, what? It is common knowledge why people buy Panama companies. Even if one is as pure as driven so, buying a company in Panama gives rise to suspicions. For a common Joe it’s a bad move, for a government minister of an EU member state it’s fatal.

It is absurd for corporation owners in Panama to ask the Tax Commissioner in Malta to inspect their books in Panama. They could just as well ask you to inspect their books since you have no jurisdiction in Panama.

If the poor Minister wants to impress, he should publicly wave the red cape in front of Panama’s tax authorities instead. Publicly challenge the Panama authorities to release all the information about him and his corporation to the Maltese press.

He should use all the pressure he can muster as one of the highest politicians in Europe to impress upon the Panamanian government to publicly release all the information it has about him, his money, and his corporation.

When I read this morning that Dr. Alfred Sant is in Brussels to lead a seminar about wiping out colorectal cancer, I thought that at least something is being done to rectify the situation.
