Not so at all. When you’re a lawyer dealing with magistrates who don’t know the law or the principles of law, you have a massive problem. This is not about politics, where lawyers are concerned, but it’s most certainly about having a hellish experience arguing your case before a magistrate who knows less of the law than you do, and writes confused judgements.

I too was in the same law course and have fond memories of her scoffing hot dogs at an end-of-exams BBQ which one of the students in our year kindly organised for everyone. She never as much as said hello to our host throughout the entire duration of the law course and doubt she even greeted him at the event, but she was happy to come and stuff her face in his home. She was your typical “belha”, the only time she spoke was to pass some idiotic remark.

This government has stopped pretending to be democratic. This has now exceeded all limits of decency, irrespective of the legality or otherwise of the nominations and the competence or otherwise of the nominees. Even the previous appointments to the bench by this government reek of nepotism and cronyism. Shame on Owen Bonnici.

They have seriously undermined the perception of judicial independence in our eyes. Our MEPs should bring these shenanigans to the notice of the European Parliament. After all, the rather unpleasant Mr Schultz has been quite vocal in his criticism of the new Polish government’s interference in Poland’s justice system.

One would expect him to be equally disgusted with the complete remodelling of our judicial landscape. But then he never endorsed Beata Szydlo. And one can hardly expect the European Socialists to be objective. They stop enthusing about democracy when it is threatened by one of their own.
