Hardly. I’d say it’s the British Virgin Islands or Panama connection. I’d also say there is at least one prominent accountant in Malta with connections to the Auberge de Castille who knows where those bodies are buried too and is therefore able to do a fair amount of financial arm-twisting himself.

Why is he even bothering with a new manifesto? Plenty of tick boxes that need checking from the 2013 manifesto, so might as well stick to that now.

Suppose that the election is called around October 2016, the month which is doing the rounds at the moment. Would not such an election be a confirmation of this Government’s hypocrisy when it decided to cancel the local council elections because of national “election fatigue” and then bring forward the national elections by at least a year and a half?

Spot on. His 10-year plan is just that – HIS 10-year plan. It has nothing to do with the Labour Party or the government. It has to do with HIM and Mizzi is a tool.

In reply to pocoyo. They are not buddies. Mizzi is Muscat's tool. Earlier today Mizzi said he'd take the flak for delays in the power station project. Wasn't it Muscat who'd said he'd resign if it wasn't operational by March 2014?

My gut feeling – it’s more than that, actually – is that the prime minister can’t fix the deals with dictators and corrupt Maltese businessmen directly himself (he’s the prime minister), so he has found a stooge minister to do it with. Konrad Mizzi, who strikes me as having some kind of autism spectrum disorder, is the perfect person for this kind of thing because he can be manipulated. Somebody of, say, John Dalli’s temperament would be impossible to manipulate and would also want a bigger cut.

If you think they’re raising funds for the party’s war chest, you’re way off mark. That would be altruistic. The only reason they wanted funds for the party war chest pre 2013 was for the pragmatic purpose of getting themselves into power, and the purpose of power is money – not the well-being of the country.

My gut feeling is that Mizzi is a key fundraiser for Muscat, their relationship is awkward, Muscat shows contempt towards Mizzi, and still they are best buddies.
