Not being affiliated in any legal manner is however his only tactic in this case. That’s not to say he won’t be showered with ‘gifts’ by the Mizzi family business when he’s out of the picture.

Let’s make this clear: the issue here is not dodging taxes. The issue here is hiding illicitly obtained assets. Even if he wanted to declare these assets for tax, Konrad Mizzi would be unable to do so – precisely because he is a cabinet minister and his only licit source of income is his salary from the government. You’re looking at corruption and money-laundering here, not simple tax evasion.
