I also think it needs to be taken in full context: for example there have been 60+ MEPA permits issued for boutique hotels in Valletta.

What happens after the Presidency?

Are they expected to all fail and start grumbling?

Is it being done purposely?

In desperation, the entrepreneurs (in the real sense of the word) had to turn to this: http://www.zaar.com.mt. The papers reported it with the usual breezy optimism, instead of asking why this only happened in 2016, and why crowdfunding and not the usual investment routes.

A solid economy cannot be built on hotels, bars, building and restaurants alone, tinnat. Though essential to the economy, civil servants are not productive in the economic sense but depend for their salaries on the production of others.

I’m not so sure you can compare with 1998. How shall I put it? The zeitgeist is different. The people themselves are different. There was Mintoff, Eddie Fenech Adami and Guide de Marco with their unrivalled charisma. And the over-arching question of European membership.

Now it’s about micro-managing the country.
