I never questioned the existence of corruption. But I was sceptical about anything good coming out of this; that has changed now having read Gauci Cunningham’s piece to which you linked in another post. THAT has the power to bring about some ‘action’.

There is also a penalty for making public the details of those who are not PEPs.

On the other hand, this recent huge corruption scandal in Malta is bound to affect everyone. It matters not if they are interested in it or not, and lack of interest in this case is indicative of a general population with a deeply insular mentality, who care only about petty issues which they deem important to their mundane lives – such as the lowered electricity rates. Lack of interest does not detract from the gravity of this situation.

Your argument that, since corruption is so widespread, then we should not give importance to the recent events, is a complete logical non-sequitur, and that kind of reasoning is what leads countries into disaster. It is also what differentiates developed countries like the UK, Sweden, and so on, from backwater Sicilian villages like Malta.

Politicians are here to serve. They are not here to abuse their power, to engage in fraudulent activities, and to have the audacity to not step down, because they “did nothing wrong”. Yes, people should protest in the streets.
