You have to realise that what makes mental illness acceptable and normal is the status of the individual. They always seem to be so-called intellectuals, so-called artists, so-called scholars, so-called experts in this and that, and of course lawyers and politicians. It’s just another manifestation of the “vogliamosi bene” mentality, as Jozef describes it. I call it laghqizmu.

That’s what comes from pushing the notion – albeit well-intentioned, but so very wrong-headed – that mental illness is no different to physical illness. Of course it is. Mental illness informs your behaviour, your personality and your level of risk to other people. Physical illness does not.
