Two or more adults can register a company in Panama. They can choose to register the company as either a persona natural (“natural person”), which means the company is essentially a person or persons (e.g, who may use the company for inheritance purposes as the Minister pointed out, mentioning his wife and children as beneficiaries); or as a persona juridica (“legal entity”), a corporation that is identified through its registration with Panama’s Taxpayer Registry.

Given the Minister’s declared purpose for his Panama registration, why did he set it up as a corporation? And not as a “natural person” instead?

Corporations in Panama often opt to register as a sociedad anonima (“anonymous society”), or bearer share corporation. This protects the confidentiality of the company’s assets, the identity of its owner or owners, and all business and BANKING transactions under Panama’s Law 32.

What strikes me is the stupidity of all these ministers and the prime minister. For them to believe that they can do what they are doing without even thinking about the risk of being caught out, in these days of WikiLeaks, freedom of information and international agreements about money laundering and criminality and cross-border disclosures, their stupidity is astounding. For this alone they should be thrown out immediately.
