All comments-boards are private because they are all privately owned. There are no such things as public ones. The fact that they are open to the public does not mean that they are owned by the public. The owner/publisher has the same rights and responsibilities, and duty of care towards the product, as the owner/publisher of any other medium.

But the way Maltese people seem to regard the comments space beneath a post as a forum for open discussion about anything that takes their fancy, like a random conversation in a bar, is so exhausting. There are unwritten rules on the internet as there are everywhere else. One of them is that you stick to the subject of the post/article beneath which you are commenting.

Everyone seems to have forgotten how John Dalli sold off Mid-Med Bank for peanuts to HSBC. His may have been the example that the Muscat government has used since March 2013 on how to dispose of the country’s assets as though they are one’s own. No wonder they are now so chummy-chummy.

1.When the debt falls due where are the funds to pay back the loan going to come from?

This isn’t a profit-making venture as far as we know. It seems as though it’s just to finance current expenditure.

If the Nationalist Party went bust even on donations (no interest, no pay-back of capital) how likely is it that it will keep its financial obligations, i.e. paying creditors as debts fall due?

Both Prime Minister Fenech Adami and Prime Minister Gonzi were informed of John Dalli’s corrupt practices. However, instead of investigating the allegations the informant was persecuted. Evidence to confirm this exists.

I have to disagree. It is precisely the way to finance a loan. The Nationalist Party is owning up to the fact that it owes a lot of money ( I wish it would make a clean breast of things and say how much; I also wish it would explain how it allowed things to get that way).

As soon as the Labour Party comes up with such crap as the above, the Nationalist Party can simply say “This is who we borrowed (notice the term here is borrowed, not took) our money from and this is how we are paying them back. Whose money did you take to finance your electoral campaign, how much do you owe and how are you paying it back, if at all?’

This system calls for transparency. Any other system is calling for favours.
