Maybe he was convinced by others that this was the best way forward. I honestly don’t know and I acknowledge that this is all speculation, albeit speculation based on an objective assessment of what is in the public domain.

The style seems similar to how Bartolo has been dealing with the current situation. I somehow do not think that Abela became prone to an attack of uncharacteristic modesty.
