I didn't say they would leave them stateless. I said that where someone holds two citizenships, one can be withdrawn (depending on the jurisdiction) in some cases, for example where it is found that the holder of that citizenship has committed crimes.

I know of cases where this has happened but it depends on the state involved. Some countries will not strip you of citizenship in any circumstance. Others will if you hold two, meaning you don't remain stateless and others, as in the case of India, even stripped Modi of citizenship where his was obtained as a birthright and descent, even though he held no other citizenship.

In any case, it can be done. It is complicated and varies greatly from one state to the next so we are really just wasting our time even discussing it.

Well, they are betraying the people they should be loyal to, and to whom they have a duty to serve: the people.

To me, people who shift their loyalty according not to what is right, or who is in the right, but rather according to what pays better or is more opportune, is a gakbin.

If I have a different interpretation, so be it. I use it in that context. If you would like me to put it into a context: il-Pulizija qeghdin jiggakkbinawnha wahda sew.

Governments do not withdraw citizenship where people hold other citizenship. When you acquire another citizenship in situations where your original citizenship does not permit it, you are deemed to have voluntarily given up your original citizenship, and not to have had it withdrawn - because you knew when you acquired the second citizenship that you would not be permitted to hang on to the first.

A government cannot withdraw citizenship and leave a person stateless. China, for example, does not allow its citizens to hold dual citizenship. So if a Chinese person buys Maltese citizenship, he has to give up his Chinese citizenship. The Maltese government then cannot withdraw his Maltese citizenship because it would leave him stateless (apart from other considerations of law).

I see what you mean. In theory this country has a clear separation of powers. In practice though the Police are in the hands of the Labour Party, particularly because the government appoints the Commissioner.

Then there is the fact that the Maltese are massive gakbini who will do anything to please the person who gives them their pappa.

Again, more sloppy thinking: passports and citizenship are not the same thing. The Maltese government is selling citizenship, not passports. The passports are a by-product of the citizenship.

Any government can withdraw any passport - even of those for whom citizenship is a birthright - as we have seen in the case of the Indian government's withdrawal of Lalit Modi's Indian passport (he remains a citizen of India).

Citizenship, however, cannot be withdrawn - certainly not where it is a birthright. Whether bought citizenship can be withdrawn has yet to be tested.

You cannot, however, fling about demands for the withdrawal of passports and/or citizenship. It is not as simple as that.
