Abela and Bartolo are not leaders but followers. They will always act to survive and to stay in the mainstream. Toni Abela did not leave the Labour Party 25-odd years ago and set up AD because he was horrified at the corruption and violence, as he claims, but because he was edged out of the mainstream. As soon as Sant was elected party leader and he saw his chance to get back into the Labour Party mainstream, he dumped AD after just a couple of years and leaped straight back into Labour. As for Evarist Bartolo, don’t get me started. He has got to be the laziest and most unmotivated man on the island who is not actually on the dole. The man never even bothered to learn how to drive because he always had his wife to drive him around.
