‘Labour’ and ‘Nationalist’ are not ethnic groups, but political parties. The Labour Party is what it is and Joseph Muscat is its leader. The Nationalist Party is what it is, and Simon Busuttil is its leader.

Parties evolve. And some of them, like the Labour Party, evolve merely to stay the same.

Last night, rummaging around in a box-room drawer—-there’s no other way, when you keep drawers the way I do—- I fished out one whopping clothes peg I have never been able to put a use to.

A knee-high member of the family snatched it out of my hand and clipped it on to her nose. She had seen something like it in one of the cartoons she’s addicted to.

Anything that can be taken apart, she’ll reduce it to its basics.

So I cajoled her into giving it back and said: “Let’s make a deal. I keep it till Sunday night and then it’s all yours.”

“Why Sunday night and not now?”

“Cos I’ll be needing it on Sunday afternoon in front of Castille.”

You’re almost correct, except that the Labour Party are not irrelevant. They are in government, they still have a majority in parliament, and they appoint key people to the judiciary.

And unless the rest of the party wakes up, we’re going to have two more years of this.
