Bertrand Russell summed it up so well without the need for scientific research. He was exposed to some of the best minds of the time, so he knew all about the self doubt of the greatest of intellectuals. And all you need to do to complement that is to look at the way pompous fools behave – of which, unfortunately, there always seem to be many.

Lara Boffa and Amanda Mifsud are not ‘younger girls’ but women in their late 30s.

When a woman is that age, none of the men who are the same age are interested because they are either taken already and not yet bored, or looking for somebody with whom they can raise a family, which means they’ll be hunting for women in their 20s.

Women in their late 30s are only young and interesting to men in their 50s. Men younger than that have more options and are not interested anyway.

Dunning and Kruger examined skill and found that improving skills improved the subjects’ insight into their own ability or lack of it.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of intelligence, which is what is really lacking in many government officials and appointees, chief among them the Prime Minister himself.
